FEDERICO URUBURU PHOTOGRAPHY PRIZE

DEADLINE JUNE 29, 2017

Any attendee to the 7th FEMS Congress of European Microbiologists + 26th SEMS Congress can participate 

Format

Printed photographs much be of 18x24 cm size and mounted on a 24x30 cm cardboard. JPEG files must have the same size and minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Each author may present a maximum of three works. 

Subject

Photographs must be related to the Microbiology field and much not be published anywhere. 

Pictures sent by regular mail must be accompanied by a closed envelope with the author's data (Full name, address, telephone, and email) on which a pseudonym or alias must be written. Pictures sent by email must have the same information attached in a separate file.

Each picture must have a title and a brief explanation attached (three-four lines maximum)

Prize

The winner will receive 300 EUR. All candidate works will be exhibited at the Congress Exhibition Hall. SEM will reserve the rights of using the photographs for promotional purposes, always citing the author. 


FEMS Early Career Scientist

DEADLINE WAS JANUARY 31, 2017

FEMS will provide over 200 grants for European and non-European Early Career Scientists to support their attendance at the 7th FEMS Congress of European Microbiologists, July 9 – 13, 2017, Valencia, Spain.

The amount of the grants is 400, 500 or 600 Euro (depending on the travel distance). 

FEMS will also provide special grants for 15 Latin Americans Early Career Scientists.

FEMS will organize a special reception for all grant recipients. Further details will be posted on this website when available, and will be included in the final programme book.

FEMS will award a certificate and 500 Euro for the 6 best posters presented by a FEMS Early Career Scientist. This special award is known as the Early Career Scientist Award. The prize awards will be given to five European and one non-European and presented at the Closing Ceremony of FEMS 2017.

Note

Winners must be present during the Closing Ceremony to receive their prize.

Regulations

Deadline for submission of grant applications was in accordance with the regular abstract submission deadline. 

An applicant for a FEMS Congress Grant should:

  1. Be an early career scientist and thus should either
    • have obtained highest academic degree (Bachelor, Master or PhD) less than five years prior the application deadline, or
    • be a PhD student;
  2. be an active microbiologist;
  3. be the first author of an accepted abstract
  4. attend the congress and be a registered participant who paid the registration fee after information on grant approval

The following documents will need to be uploaded with the application:

  • CV including list of publications
  • Letter of recommendation
  • A copy of the abstract submitted via the congress website

Note

​​Only grant recipients that are present at the congress will receive the grant allocated to them.

FEMS-ASM Mäkelä-Cassell Award​

DEADLINE WAS JANUARY 31, 2017

The FEMS-ASM Award supports the reciprocal exchange of one member from each organization to present his/her research at the other organization's main conference. It has been designed to benefit early career scientists from both organizations by giving them the opportunity to present their work overseas and experience the best of microbiology in the partner country.

The FEMS-ASM Mäkelä-Cassell is worth up to $5,000 US for ASM members travelling to the FEMS 2017 congress.

Regulations

Deadline for submission of grants applications is the ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE 

An early career scientist eligible for the FEMS-ASM Mäkelä-Cassell Award should:

  1. Be a current ASM member (please provide the ID number);
  2. Be an early career scientist and thus should either
    • have obtained the PhD within the past five years prior the application deadline, or
    • be a PhD student and
  3. Be the first author of an accepted abstract

To be considered for the FEMS-ASM Mäkelä-Cassell an ASM member should indicate the interest during the abstract submission process.

The following documents will need to be provided upon request after the abstract submission deadline:

  • Brief CV including list of publications and the ASM Membership ID
  • Synopsis of their research that demonstrates the depth of the applicant's research experience
  • A copy of the abstract submitted via the congress website
